Error description
Customer has a government requirement to remove C++ 2005 Redistributables. Our software apparently installs them. It's unclear if it also installs the 2008, or if those were already there. I do have a machine without CQ and it appears to have the 2005 and 2013 already (but there is a lot of other IBM software on it) We've done some testing and if they remove the 2005 redistributables, CQ seems fine on about half the machines. On the other half, even if they reinstall CQ, it doesnt get added back. Probably because they also have a number of other versions of the C++ Redistrib probably installed by other software? At that point they just reimage the machine. The machines that work without have totally different software than the machines where CQ stops working after removing the component. It will take us a lot of trial and error and reinstalling other vendors software before we can determine what installed various versions. I have attached screen captures whose names hopefully make it obvious what its showing. These include the errors when opening the tools after removing the redistr (CQ and event error) and screen caps of what redistributables are on the machine before and after removal. I also included the govt memo itself. The customer is running CQ 8.0.1 but we're also looking at 9 and the same appears to be true. I could go deleting these things from my vApp CQ9 to see what happens but I'm over quota and would need to discard more than one machine before I could check out something new. The 2005 redistributables are no longer supported and are considered risky by the government. The customer either needs CQ to install up-to-date versions of redistributiables to be shipped with the product some point in the future, guidance on how to remove them and still allow the product to work OR written information from us that the software needs it so they can attempt to add CQ to an exception list (which may or may not be approved for all machines)
